Job Posting Information

Position Type Faculty
Tenure or non-tenure track Tenure
Position Title Assistant Professor of Ceramics
Job Summary and Requirements

Ceramicist. Denison University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Ceramics in the Studio Art Program, to begin in August 2018. Candidates must have an MFA in Ceramics or closely related field, and be able to teach all levels of undergraduate ceramics (wheel, hand-building, mold making, ceramic surfaces) to a wide range of students, including B.A. & B.F.A art majors, minors, and non-art majors. In addition to Ceramics courses, we seek a colleague who will share in the responsibility of teaching an interdisciplinary foundations course, and junior/senior Studio Art practicum classes in rotation, as well as service expectations that are congruent with applicant’s interests & needs of our college community. While Ceramic knowledge is paramount as well as the ability to run and maintain a ceramic studio, we seek a colleague whose artwork is committed to the interdisciplinary investigation of ceramics, and an exploration of the medium as imperatively contemporary. Candidates must be invested in a serious artistic practice with consistent peer review, and continue to expand upon this trajectory while at Denison with focus and passion. The teaching load is 3/2 courses. A minimum of two years of teaching experience beyond graduate school is preferred. Applicants must be able to extend the traditions of Ceramics to include cross-disciplinary approaches and outcomes in their teaching for art and non-art majors. Candidates will be encouraged to create and teach innovative courses of their own design. Denison has several interdisciplinary programs that examine diverse concerns and knowledge bases (e.g. Black Studies, Women’s Studies, Queer Studies, Environmental Studies, International Studies). We strongly encourage artists whose artwork and teaching practice could potentially intersect with these or other academic programs to respond to this position announcement. We are committed to providing our art students with diverse perspectives, mentors, and role models.
