Job Summary and Requirements | The Department of Modern Languages at Denison University invites applications for a one-year, full-time visiting faculty position beginning in August 2018, with the possibility of one additional year depending upon performance and departmental need. We seek applicants with a Ph.D. in French Studies. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to Denison’s institutional mission of educating in the Liberal Arts tradition and willingness to engage in service. Successful candidates will be committed to teaching a range of undergraduate French courses at all levels of the curriculum, including introductory and intermediate language courses. Depending on program needs, candidates may have the opportunity to teach a course in an area of expertise. Evidence of effective teaching and a native or near-native fluency in French and English are required. Candidates should have a demonstrated potential for excellence in research and scholarly publications. Preference will be given to candidates with research expertise in Literatures of the Ancien Régime or Contemporary French Cultures, and experience teaching in both. Preferred qualifications include: Ph.D. completed by time of application, a record of two or more years of successful college-level teaching, a commitment to undergraduate education and the development of the student as a whole person, and a willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues. This individual will be responsible for teaching a 3/3 course load per academic year, maintaining an active scholarly agenda, and participating in departmental and college-wide activities.
